How day rates are built
A day rental buys the vessel, its crew and a block of hours — most commonly six to eight, with sunset slots of three to four hours priced separately. Because the boat runs whether you bring four guests or twelve, the rate is quoted for the vessel. That is why cost per head falls sharply with group size, and why two couples often pay more per person than a family of eight on the same boat.

What sits outside the base rate
- Marine park and entry fees — payable per guest in certain areas.
- Fuel surcharge for extended range — going beyond the agreed area is billed by running hours.
- Transfers — hotel to marina, typically USD 30–120 per vehicle depending on distance.
- Catering upgrades — a plated lunch or chef service rather than the standard refreshments.
- Water toys — paddleboards are often included, powered toys usually are not.

Sunset slots, half days and full days
Three products sit behind most Bali day rates. A sunset slot of three to four hours is the shortest commercially sensible block, usually leaving mid-afternoon and returning after dark. A half day of five to six hours suits one anchorage with a swim and lunch. A full day of eight to ten hours is what the Nusa islands realistically need once crossing time in both directions is counted. Because crew hours and fuel both rise with duration, the full-day rate is rarely twice the half-day rate, and the extra hours are usually the smallest incremental cost in the quote.
Deposits, balances and cancellation
Day rentals commonly take a deposit of 30–50% to hold the date, with the balance before boarding. Cancellation terms tighten close to the date, and weather cancellations are normally decided by the skipper on the morning, with a reschedule or a refund of the unused portion depending on the operator’s policy. Ask which of the two applies before you pay, and get it in writing.
