What Is an Indonesia Yacht Rental?

An Indonesia yacht rental is the whole-vessel private hire of a phinisi schooner, sport yacht, catamaran, motor yacht or superyacht across Indonesia’s premier marine destinations — Bali day-charters, Komodo four-to-twelve-day expeditions, Raja Ampat Coral Triangle voyages, Wakatobi Marine Park dive trips, Mentawai surf charters and Banda Sea expedition cruises. The vessel and full crew are dedicated to your single closed group for the duration of the rental. There are no shared cabins, no fixed embarkation manifest, and no other guests. The rental price covers the entire vessel, the captain and crew, all meals prepared by the onboard chef, snorkelling and watersports equipment, fuel, and a flexible captain-led itinerary that adjusts to wind, tide, marine wildlife and your group’s appetite.

In Indonesian maritime practice the words “rental” and “charter” are used interchangeably for this product. Strictly the rental refers to the vessel itself and the charter refers to the rental plus crew and provisions, but every premium vessel in Indonesia ships with non-optional crew (the boats are too large, the regulatory framework requires it, and the operations are too complex for guest-skippered models in most categories). The practical answer is that an Indonesia yacht rental is a fully crewed private charter, and the page you are reading uses both terms accordingly.

This page is the operational brief our charter desk sends to qualified inquiries. It walks through the five vessel categories we rent, the six cruising regions we cover, the partner fleet of named vessels we book most often, the season calendar and the all-in cost ranges by tier. We publish it openly because price and process transparency is a courtesy our clients reward with rebookings and referrals.

Five Vessel Categories

1. Phinisi schooner — 28 to 50 metres, three to seven cabins

The heritage choice. Hand-built ironwood and teakwood vessels descended from 14th-century South Sulawesi trading craft, fitted out in Bali to contemporary luxury standards (climate per cabin, ensuite rain showers, marine-grade interiors). Cruising speed 8 to 10 knots, fuel burn approximately one-third of a comparable motor yacht. Best suited to Komodo, Raja Ampat and Banda voyages where the journey is part of the experience. Crew of eight to ten with chef, dive master and captain. Indicative range USD 25,000 to 80,000 for seven days all-in.

2. Sport yacht — 38 to 72 feet, two to four cabins

The fast option. Twin-engine planing hulls with cruising speeds of 25 to 30 knots, suited to Bali day-charters (Benoa to Nusa Penida in 60-75 minutes) and short multi-island runs (Bali-Lombok-Sumbawa in 4-5 days). Smaller crew (three to five), tighter group capacity (six to ten guests), more focused brief. Ideal for couples, small families, corporate day events. Indicative range USD 2,500 to 6,500 per day, USD 18,000 to 45,000 per week.

3. Catamaran — 50 to 80 feet, three to five cabins

The shallow-draft option. Twin-hull configuration draws less water than monohulls (1.0-1.4 m), opening reef anchorages a deeper vessel cannot reach. Split-hull stability reduces motion at anchor — appreciated by families with children and guests prone to motion sensitivity. Sail or motor configuration; best in Bali, Wakatobi and Mentawai where reef-edge access matters. Indicative range USD 22,000 to 60,000 per week.

4. Motor yacht — 80 to 120 feet, four to six cabins

The contemporary luxury option. Steel or composite hulls, twin diesel propulsion, full air-conditioned interior, larger sundeck-to-guest ratio than a phinisi. Cruising speed 12 to 18 knots — fast enough to cover multi-region itineraries (Bali to Komodo, Komodo to Raja Ampat) within a single charter. Crew of seven to ten with European or mixed-nationality officers in many cases. Indicative range USD 60,000 to 180,000 per week.

5. Superyacht — 120 feet and above, five to eight cabins

The rarest category in Indonesian waters. Full-displacement steel hulls, twin or quad propulsion, dedicated dive deck, helipad on the larger vessels, full hospitality crew. Cruising range covers any Indonesian region with multi-week endurance. Crew of ten to twenty including dedicated stewards, second chef, spa therapist on the largest vessels. Calendar windows are tight — peak weeks are reserved twelve to eighteen months ahead. Indicative range USD 180,000 to 450,000 per week, with a small number of new-build vessels above this band. Our superyacht options brief covers the named vessels currently available.

Five Pricing Tiers, All-In

Indonesia yacht rental pricing falls naturally into five tiers, each defined by vessel category and trip duration. Every tier is the all-in vessel rate covering the boat, the crew, all meals, fuel and tender transfers; flights, park fees and gratuities sit outside the band. The figures below are 2026 indicative ranges based on our current partner fleet and prevailing market rates.

Tier 1 — Day & weekend (Bali sport yacht, catamaran day-charter)

USD 2,500 to 6,500 per day. 8-12 hour outings from Benoa Marina to Nusa Penida, Lembongan, Crystal Bay. Crew of three to five, lunch on board, snorkel kit and tender included.

Tier 2 — Premium week (small phinisi, mid catamaran)

USD 25,000 to 45,000 per week. 28-38m phinisi or 50-65ft catamaran across Komodo or short Raja Ampat. Crew of six to nine. Three meals per day, dive equipment, chef-prepared menu.

Tier 3 — Luxury week (large phinisi, mid motor yacht)

USD 60,000 to 120,000 per week. 38-50m phinisi or 80-100ft motor yacht across Komodo, Raja Ampat or Banda Sea repositioning. Crew of eight to twelve. Master suite, dedicated dive deck, full beverage cellar.

Tier 4 — Ultra-luxury week (premium motor yacht, small superyacht)

USD 130,000 to 220,000 per week. 100-130ft motor yacht with multi-region range. Crew of ten to fifteen. Naturalist guide, second chef, spa cabin in some configurations.

Tier 5 — Superyacht (120ft+ flagship)

USD 220,000 to 450,000 per week and above. Full-displacement steel hulls, helipad-prepped, multi-week endurance. Crew of fifteen to twenty-five. Reserved twelve to eighteen months ahead for peak windows.

What is the difference between yacht rental and yacht charter in Indonesia?

Yacht rental in Indonesia means whole-vessel hire — you pay a single all-inclusive rate covering vessel, captain, crew, fuel, and all included services. Yacht charter is the formal contract framework around the rental, typically including bareboat charter (vessel only), skippered charter (vessel plus captain), or fully crewed charter (vessel plus captain, crew, chef, fuel, and provisions). All Indonesia Yacht Rental Atelier bookings default to fully crewed charter — the highest service tier — so the terms are functionally interchangeable in our atelier.

How much does an Indonesia yacht rental cost in 2026?

Indonesia yacht rental rates in 2026 span $950 per day (entry-tier 38ft sport yacht, Bali day-charter) to $48,000 per week (luxury 120ft motor yacht, Komodo full-week charter) to $250,000+ per week for superyacht-class vessels (140ft+, Banda Sea expedition cruise). Phinisi schooner charter typically runs $4,800-$15,000 per day all-inclusive depending on length, configuration, and route. Our pricing-tiers blog post breaks down the five tiers in detail with named partner vessels and indicative USD rates per region.

Why book Indonesia yacht rental through an atelier curator instead of direct?

An atelier curator removes three risks that single-vessel operators cannot eliminate: vessel-mismatch (an operator owning one boat is incentivised to fill that boat regardless of guest fit), schedule-mismatch (peak-season availability requires multi-vessel access), and skill-mismatch (a Komodo-experienced crew is not necessarily a Raja Ampat-experienced crew). We curate from eight named partner vessels across five regions, matching guest size, route, season, and skill requirement against vessel and crew profile in a way no single-boat operator can. The atelier fee covers the consultation depth, vessel selection, captain interview, crew brief, and charter contract. The vessel daily rate stays competitive with direct booking.
